If you look outside on a fall day, it’s almost like a movie scene with the gorgeous colors of autumn on display. It’s the same when you watch a fall movie, whether it has a Halloween or Thanksgiving feeling — or not. Fall movies don’t always have to be scary, either, unless you want them to be. Regardless of what you like, there is a cornucopia of fall films to watch on family movie night, and we’ve got your go-to list.

Hocus Pocus

This 90s flick wasn’t a huge box office hit, but it has become a major fall cult classic. Halloween just wouldn’t be the same without the Sanderson sisters. So, you have to watch Hocus Pocus  at least once, along with its Disney Plus sequel. Hocus Pocus is recommended for older tweens and up.

Halloweentown

For folks who adore Halloween, this late 90s movie is a dream come true. Marnie is a Halloween lover who finds out on her 13th birthday that her grandma is a witch and so is she. The new young witch along with her siblings get to take a trip to Halloweentown where witches and goblins are the norm to help save the day. Halloweentown is rated PG and available on Disney Plus.

It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown

Join Snoopy, Linus, Lucy, Sally, and of course, Charlie Brown for this timeless classic. It’s just not Halloween if you’re not watching Linus and Sally sitting in the pumpkin patch waiting for the Great Pumpkin. You’ll find Snoopy and the Red Baron flying around the pumpkin patch on Apple TV. Then set the table with popcorn, toast, and jellybeans to enjoy the gang in A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving

Rudy

Football season is in full swing during the fall and Rudy is the quintessential sports film that you will definitely need a box of tissues for. Rudy is recommended for older tweens and up. It’s available to stream on Amazon Prime.

Ghostbusters

Who you gonna call for a fall film? Ghostbusters!!! Be sure to start with the 1984 film that kicked off the franchise. There are four movies in the franchise, including Ghostbusters II, the 2016 remake by the same name, Ghostbusters: Afterlife, and Ghostbusters Frozen Empire. The Ghostbusters movies may be scary for little ones but are a fun watch with older kids who like to be scared and tweens.

Paddington

If you’re looking for a family-friendly fall movie to appeal to multiple ages, Paddington is the one to watch. Paddington is Britian’s favorite bear in the blue jacket and yellow hat. His name comes from London’s Paddington Station, where he was found. This heartwarming movie was a huge hit and spawned a sequel, which is a must-watch, too. Then, get the family together to see Paddington in Peru when it hits movie theaters in November. You’ll find Paddington on Max.

Twitches

Another fun fall movie with a witch theme is Twitches, starring Tia and Tamera Mowry. This Disney Plus movie about twins who discover they’re witches on their 21st birthday is earmarked for ages 8 and up. Twitches is based on the popular book series by H.B. Gilmour and Randi Reisfeld.

Casper

A 90s classic brings this friendly ghost to life. Casper is available on Amazon Prime and is ideal for ages 8 and up.

Harry Potter and the Scorcher’s Stone

If your tween is starting to get into the Harry Potter books, then grab your spot on the couch to enjoy the first of the movie series this fall.

Remember the Titans

Get into that fall feeling with another classic football flick. Remember the Titans is based on a true story and stars Denzel Washington.

It's a parenting tale as old as time. You have things to get done around the house, but a small person who says they're bored is competing with your to-do list. And so, you do what many parents do in this stretched-thin situation. You turn on the television, hand over a cellphone, or put on YouTube. But when it comes to kids watching YouTube, is it doing more harm than good?

Screens can be "addictive," as noted by Dr. David Greenfield, founder and clinical director of The Center for Internet and Technology Addiction. He explains that they have a dopamine-producing effect, and many realistic pediatric experts agree that, while screens are a part of our modern lifestyle, moderation should be enforced, and limitations be set. Screen time isn't always a bad thing for toddlers. Sometimes, when your little one isn't feeling well, watching a soothing movie is a perfect pick. Low-stimulation movies for toddlers offer better quality screen time than movies that are loud and packed with action. Sure, those are fun and can be super exciting for kids, but the impact on their cognitive development is often negative. Those overstimulating movies can be too much for toddlers, leading to tantrums, meltdowns, and an inability to fall asleep.

Think about how difficult it is to fall asleep after watching a horror or suspense movie right before going to bed. Your mind is going in different directions, making it hard to relax and drift off to sleep. Well, it's the same for toddlers. So, what are the best low-stimulation movies for toddlers to watch and what exactly are they?
